Three guys from Augsburg/Germany have realized here their tropical paradise. Visit the Phu Quoc Resort Thang Loi at the Ong Lang Beach. Recommended by Lonely Planet and by Rough Guide. Phu Quoc, Vietnam's largest island is situated in the gulf of Thailand. The drop-shaped island is 48 km in length, and from 3 to 28 km breadthwise. all in all it has 1320 qkm and about 70000 inhabitants are living on it. Compared to other islands, Phu Quoc has a very good infrastructure, like for example: an airport, several harbours, wide roads, hospital, post-office, police-station and a beautiful market. River cruising, visiting fish-sauce factories and pepper plantations, jungle-trekking to the waterfall, boat trips to an thoi islands with snorkelling and fishing, enjoying the countless lonely beaches, marvelling the local products at the market, try to find the whale museum. Since March 2002 there is also a diving-base on Phu Quoc. It is located 1 kilometre down south of Duong Dong.

“We have just returned from a few days at the Phu Quoc Thang Loi Resort. Our great experience there prompted me to review it asap, so I was surprised that it was not listed on Trip Advisor already. The 'resort' comprises a dozen bungalows scattered in verdant grounds - ours was about 6 metres from the shore. At night it looked like a little hobbit village. This is not the place for those who like to be hermetically sealed from their environment, but it was perfect for us and the price was good ($35 US p/night for beachfront bungalow). We slept to the sound of cicadas and geckoes, with the occasional fishing boat putting out to catch squid for the early morning markets - and NO MOTORCYCLES to be heard (a pretty unusual thing in Vietnam). The bungalows are not luxurious but comfortable with ceiling fan, good beds and excellent mosquito nets, and qualify as eco-accommodation given the resort uses electricity only between about 7 and 11pm each day. The little beach is rocky with a jetty to swim from and about 45 seconds' walk to the North is a long sandy beach. Reinhart the German host and the staff at the resort were very helpful. He organised a great day snorkelling for us on the An Thoi Peninsula - I saw a sea snake and a giant cuttlefish among many other creatures! Basically for those who want peace and quiet this is a great place - I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. If you want the busy beach scene with 10 resorts in a row go to Long Beach (the main beach - about 20 mins further South by taxi/moto) instead. Although there were no kids there when we stayed, we want to go back one day with our 2 - soon to be 3 - children and stay in one of Reinhart's 'family bungalows'. Rob and Sue, Adelaide, South Australia. PS: the sour seafood soup is the best and freshest seafood dish we had in Vietnam - YUM!”

“Im sorry to hear the other reviews...I just loved this place! And as you can see I have reviewed and stayed at many more places than the other reviewers, and I feel that they didnt see and experience what I did on my stay here. First of all, the owners of this resort are wonderful, kind, helpful, and treated us like we were guests in their home. The communication was great, and they even accomendated us for longer when we wanted to extend our stay! We stayed in a basic bungalow, but it was fine, and had everything we needed. The lights were only on from 5-10 pm, sometimes later...not a problem at all, you might want to bring a flashlight in case you need to get up early or in the middle of the night. The resort is nicely layed out, and very quiet, even with a new place coming up next door. we were in the very back and could still here the waves crashing the shore at night, amazing! I dont know what that other reviewer was talking about...the food was great! Cheap too. We ate alot of our meals here. Marrianne ( one of the owners) helped book all our excursions, and her and her husband were so nice. The resort is up north, above long beach, and its a little journey to get there which makes it even more special. We rented a motorbike in town, which I highly recommend ..its a great way to see the island, and the taxis can add up . The beach is here is fine, there is a bigger stretch of beach just right around the corner. The water here is clear and beautiful! Bao sao is the best beach, a long drive down south...but worth the trip!!! I would highly recommend this place to anyone! If you are looking for luxury , there are some conrete resorts down in long beach, but if you are looking for something quiet and unique, this is the place for you!”
